How to Tackle Rising Unemployment in Indian Youth

Since the last 2 to 3 decades, there is a popular belief that if students enroll themselves in Professional or Engineering courses, then they would get high paid jobs. So a large chunk of the youth population of the country started to enroll into these courses. But over the period of time even though the number of graduates increases, on the contrary the number of jobs remains the same.

The students with no academic merit also started getting admissions into professional courses due to easy availability of colleges. This resulted in less preference for other streams like Arts, Commerce. It is customary that these students should read & write only what’s there in a book and appear for the exam. But no system has been created to guide him as to what qualities or skills they should have, which branch they should choose.

Now students with professional degrees in their hands know nothing about what to do next in their life, which ultimately resulted in highest unemployment ever in India. To tackle this problem these graduates prefer to join some facility which would impart skill development training before even applying for a job in any industry. So where does the actual problem lie? The solution to these problems is that we need to identify first the core skills possessed by every youth and accordingly guide them to get enrolled for respective streams of education. They can be diverted to the streams like Agriculture, Commerce, Arts, Self-employment etc.
